Research grant information is now widely available on the Internet. This section lists general informational resources, grant databases and some common agencies and foundations used by biomedical research scientists.
 
General Resources
GrantsNet (AAAS and HHMI) is a searchable biomedical grants database for grad students, post-docs and young faculty that provides contact information from each granting agency an extensive funding directory, links to web sites and interviews with many grant administrators.
 
Grants Web, sponsored by the Society of Grant Administrators, is a general resource for grant information in all topic areas.
 
Postdoctoral Fellowships (UCSF Biochemistry & Biophysics Department) is a convenient listing of fellowships that includes eligibility, deadlines, contact information and stipends.
 
Hints for Writing Successful NIH Grants by Ellen Barrett describes techniques that are useful for writing NIH or any other grant application.
 
Granting Agencies and Foundations
Alfred P. Sloan Foundation has general program information, contacts and lists of award winners.
 
American Cancer Society provides online applications and instructions, along with funding trends and a breakdown of research funding by state.
 
Burroughs Wellcome Fund includes program information and deadlines, application cover sheets and a list of awardees.
 
Howard Hughes Medical Institute presents information on grants and fellowships, including program information, application tips and a database of current fellows. A new HHMI program dispenses Precollege Science Education Grants.
 
National Institutes of Health provides research funding information, grant policies, grant application kits, NIH grant FAQs and study section rosters.
 
National Science Foundation provides well-organized grant information, inluding the Grant Proposal Forms Kit, the extensive Grant Proposal Guide and FAQs on the preparation of grant proposals.
 
National Research Council includes information about graduate fellowships and postdoctoral and senior research accociateship awards.
